Our town was
named after was named after Bolivar, TN, which in turn was
named in honor of Simón Bolívar, South American soldier and
statesman. The earliest settlers in Bolivar, MO, came from
that identically named town in Tennessee.
Even beyond the university, Bolivar is a comfortable city
with plenty of amenities. There are five public schools and
a private school ready to serve students in Bolivar. Bolivar
public schools have an "AAA" rating, the highest rating
possible in Missouri.
Those in need of health care can visit Citizens Memorial
Hospital, a 74-bed facility. Our community is even home to a
municipal airport and the Classic College of Cosmetology.
